Here is a GL multiple choice practice paper with notes on how to identify the correct option to most questions.

Paper–The Dog From Outer Space
Answers
D–because Alix is ‘visiting her grandmother for what promised to be a dreary weekend’ and a normal weekend is just two days.
C–D is tempting but Alix wants to leave primarily because she is bored. When more than one option sounds right as in this instance, you must consider which idea is most emphasised. Here, it’s boredom:
C–1 because when she reaches the telephone box, she decides not to call her mum to ask her to take her home because she knows she’ll say no. And 4 because she’s seen a green dog and there’s a boy she likes, Charlie, who might be there. Charlie doesn’t invite her to the BBQ and Alix doesn’t mention a dog show.
A–MacTavish belongs to Elsa's family who live at number 25 next to Alix’s grandmother at number 23. As Elsa notes MacTavish is not in his basket, we can infer she is looking for him. Then logically, the ‘he’ in ‘he’s been chasing their cat again’ refers to MacTavish.
B–Alix’s grandmother presumably because Alix is just visiting her grandmother for the weekend.
E–The cat we can presume is chased by MacTavish because there is an ‘ominous looking gap’ between Elsa’s garden and ‘that of number 23’.
C–You really need to focus on ‘impression the cat wished to create’ part of this question. The cat is dishevelled but wishes to appear dignified: ‘A cat, somewhat dishevelled, had walked in with as much elegance (dignity) as it could muster’.
C–Jack feels all of the emotions listed but the emotion emphasised is annoyance and he also suggests it’s unfair he has so many jobs to do.
B–Sometimes capital letters are used for emphasis.
D–Because she is ‘suppressing a smile’ I imagine she’s smirking because overall the tone of the letter is very self-pitying.
D–The key part of this question is ‘according to Jack’. It is Jack’s fault the bread is bent, yet he blames his mother!
C– ‘I [have] done all my chores’ is how the sentence should be written.
A–because Elsa is slow in her speech as suggested by the use of ellipsis (Yes…), answers 'cautiously’ and with ‘increasing hesitation’.
E–because in this moment we can presume Elsa’s mother figures that Jack has accidentally washed MacTavish in green hairdye.
E–Jack and the dog
